Frequently Asked Questions

If you have a question which is not answered here, please email me.

I've never been to therapy before. Can we meet online to discuss it first?

Yes! I offer a complimentary 15 minute Zoom session before you commit to the first session. This gives you a chance to ask any questions you have and for us both to work out if we have potential to be a good fit.

What actually happens in the first session?

In our first meeting, I will ask questions about what life looks like for you right now, what’s been happening in your past, and what you’re hoping to get out of therapy. Just as importantly, it’s a space for you to ask me questions and see how it feels to talk with me. There is no pressure to dive into deep or painful topics right away. At the end, I suggest you take some time to think about whether I feel like the right fit for you.

3

What is the difference between short-term and ongoing therapy?

It completely depends on your goals:

Short-term therapy (typically 6–8 sessions): We focus tightly on a specific, immediate life event or issue—such as a relationship breakup, a sudden redundancy, or a period of intense stress. We work together to unpack the issue and build practical coping strategies.

Ongoing therapy: This is an open-ended, longer-term space. It allows us to gently explore deep-rooted patterns, past experiences, and persistent feelings (like ongoing anxiety, shame, or low self-esteem) that might be holding you back from a fulfilling life.

4

How do I know if you’re the right psychotherapist for me?

Therapy relies heavily on the relationship between us—it is one of the most important ingredients for change. In me, you will find a calm, warm, and non-judgmental presence. If you are looking for an environment focused on safety, transparency, and mutual respect where you can explore your thoughts at your own pace, we will likely work well together. If during our initial session we decide another specialist would better suit your needs, I will happily help guide you toward the right support.

5

What are your fees, and how long are the sessions?

  • Individual Psychotherapy: $170 (inc. GST) per 50-minute session.

  • Couples Psychotherapy: $260 (inc. GST) per 80-minute session.

6

What is your cancellation policy?

Because I set aside a regular weekly slot specifically for you and there is a waiting list for my services, I prefer 24 hours' notice for cancellations, otherwise the standard session fee may apply. If you wake up on the day of the session feeling ill, please email me ASAP to avoid a cancellation fee.

7

Are your sessions LGBTQIA+ friendly?

Absolutely. Everyone is welcome in my practice. I work closely to support rainbow whānau and have experience working at organizations such as the Burnett Foundation and Youthline. I have extensive experience navigating minority stress, identity, gender, sexuality, non-monogamy/alternative relationships, and modern dating.

8

I suspect I have ADHD or am neurodivergent. How does that fit into your practice?

You are very welcome here. I have a particular interest and specialist background in adult neurodiversity, and my Master’s dissertation specifically focused on how psychotherapists work with clients experiencing symptoms of ADHD. Our therapy will accommodate your unique way of processing the world without forcing you into rigid boxes.

I welcome your questions and look forward to hearing from you
